PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
Waste & Recycling Services
Curbside services including garbage, waste, and recycling collection are offered to Lafayette Parish residents.
Service requests for missed collections or stolen or broken carts can be made on the Lafayette 311 page or by calling 311.
Acadiana Waste Services Transfer
Acadiana Waste Services (AWS) is set to take over solid waste and recycling collection services in the City of Lafayette and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish beginning October 30, 2023.
On October 2, Acadiana Waste Services (AWS) will begin delivering new waste and recycling carts to residents. However, AWS will not begin collecting waste until October 30, so residents should continue using their blue Republic Services carts until that date.
What To Do With My Carts
Starting October 30:
- Begin using the new AWS carts.
- Stop using the blue carts, as the blue carts will begin to be removed. Place the empty blue carts at the road on your collection day. This process may take a few weeks, so if your old carts are not picked up within 24 hours, please bring them in and put them back out the next week on your collection day. If you have more than one blue cart, please place them all at the road for removal.
- Residents may also bring their old carts to 102 BJ Services Road.
AWS Weekly Service
Garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky waste will all be collected on the same day, once per week. For most residents, your garbage and recycling service day will NOT change from your current day. However, some residents may have a change in their collection day. Click here to identify your weekly collection day.

Garbage (black cart, red lid)
Your new garbage cart has
been assigned to your address using a unique serial number located on each cart. Residents requesting a second garbage cart may do so for a one-time fee by visiting: https://acadianawaste.com/request-other-services/. Your AWS cart has arrows on the lid; these arrows MUST point to the street.

Recycling (green cart, green lid)
Your new recycling cart has
also been assigned to your address using a unique serial number located on each cart. If you are a Lafayette city resident and would like a recycling cart, you may request one by completing the form here: https://acadianawaste.com/recycling-service (*curbside recycling available for city residents only). A list of acceptable items for recycling can be found on the lid of your recycling cart.

Yard Waste
Grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, stems, and branches must be bagged, placed curbside or in a 40-gallon can, and not exceed 50 lbs. Large tree trimmings that cannot be placed in bags must be placed neatly in piles at curbside and not exceed 50 lbs.
