Composting

The Dean Domingues Compost Facility is located at 400 Dugas Road in north Lafayette Parish. "Green waste" such as tree branches, grass and shrub trimmings are ground up and re-made into a nutrient-rich soil additive. The composting program helps to keep Lafayette's garbage disposal rates stable; reduces waste that would otherwise go to a landfill; and best of all, citizens can pick up free compost. It's a true win-win for Lafayette Consolidated Government and its citizens.

No processed wood or lumber is accepted, nor is any trash other than tree waste and green waste. Root balls from trees, with the massive quantities of roots and compacted dirt, cannot be accepted at the Compost Facility.

Residents bringing yard waste to the Compost Facility pay $6.00 per cubic yard (equivalent to a half-ton pickup bed full).

Residents may BRING YARD WASTE

  • Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays 7 a.m. – 12  noon (SECOND SATURDAYS ONLY in December, January & February)

Free COMPOST IS AVAILABLE

  • Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Saturdays 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (SECOND SATURDAYS ONLY in December, January & February).

Machinery is available to load pickup trucks and trailers. Vehicles with an enclosed back (a car or truck with a camper top) will require citizens to load the compost with their own shovel and container(s).
