The Mosquito Control Program In Lafayette Parish

Lafayette Parish’s mosquito control program combines proven methods and advanced technology to provide residents with safe, effective, and environmentally responsible service. Every mosquito spray vehicle is tracked by GPS tracking to insure consistency of the program and accountability of every tax-payer dollar spent. The goal of the program is to control disease carried by mosquitoes, keep mosquito populations to a tolerable level, and to accomplish this objective without undue risks to the environment or the residents. This is accomplished through our Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM) program which targets mosquitoes at all stages of life through four strategies: surveillance and disease testing, larval control, adult control, and public education.

How We Direct Our Efforts

Our mosquito control program relies on a combination of scientific surveillance, field inspections conducted by trained experts, and valuable input from residents to guide our operations. This comprehensive approach ensures that treatments are both effective and targeted to the areas that need them most. Please use the link below to submit a service request for truck spraying, ask questions about current activities, or report any situation you believe may be a potential mosquito concern in your community.

Schedule an Educational Event
Community education is a key part of effective mosquito control. Our team offers presentations and outreach events to schools, community groups, and civic organizations to help residents learn more about mosquito biology, prevention, and public health. To schedule an educational event or request a speaker, please call 337-539-0123 or email neal.bellard@vci.net. We look forward to partnering with you to promote awareness and prevention throughout the community.

How You Can Help Prevent Mosquitoes
Everyone plays a vital role in reducing mosquitoes and protecting our community. Residents can help by regularly emptying or removing containers that hold standing water—such as flowerpots, buckets, birdbaths, and gutters—where mosquitoes breed. Keeping grass and vegetation trimmed, maintaining pools properly, and ensuring window and door screens are in good condition also make a big difference.

To protect yourself and your family, use EPA-approved insect repellents, wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors during peak mosquito activity, and limit outdoor time at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
