City District 1 - Elroy Broussard

Elroy Broussard is newly-elected for his first term representing Lafayette City Council District 1. He was born in the City of Lafayette and has been a lifelong resident. Councilman Broussard has been married to Cheryl Broussard for 51 years and they share three (3) sons – Raven, Elroy, and Ryan; one (1) daughter – Candice; 15 grandchildren, and seven (7) great-grandchildren. Councilman Broussard is retired from Oil Center Research after 41 years of service. Prior to his election to the City Council, Councilman Broussard also served for 12 years on the Lafayette Board of Zoning Adjustment and nine (9) years as the representative for District 3 on the Lafayette Parish School Board. He is involved in many community and church activities and groups. Though he feels pride for many of his accomplishments as a School Board member, Councilman Broussard is especially proud of helping lead the efforts toward the development and construction of the new, state-of-the-art Truman Early Childhood Education Center. Councilman Broussard has been inspired to pursue and continue a life of public service because he would like to help ensure that as the City of Lafayette grows, the north side of Lafayette is included so that its rich history is not forgotten about or set aside. He believes in and supports the need to revitalize the north side of Lafayette, especially in light of its position as the gateway to the City.
