RENOVATED MOUNTED UNIT FACILITY STRENGTHENS PUBLIC SAFETY OPERATIONS

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has completed renovations to the Lafayette Police Department’s Mounted Patrol facility, delivering a permanent, modernized space that strengthens operations and supports public safety across Lafayette.

The Mounted Patrol Unit plays a critical role in crowd management and high-visibility policing, particularly during major events such as Mardi Gras, festivals, and parades. With a regular presence in Downtown Lafayette, the unit enhances safety while remaining approachable and accessible to the public.

The renovation delivers approximately 1,307 square feet of updated interior space within the existing building, featuring new office areas, a dedicated tack room, break room, and updated restroom and shower facilities. These improvements create a more functional, efficient, and supportive environment while modernizing facilities that have been in place since 2017.

“Our mounted officers help us see above the crowd, move through busy areas, and keep people safe during major events,” said Lafayette Police Chief Trouard. “During Mardi Gras, they play a big role in keeping parade routes secure and responding quickly when needed. This upgraded facility gives them the support they need to keep doing that work.”

The unit consists of eight officers and six trained horses, serving as both a public safety asset and a visible community presence.

The $360,000 investment reflects LCG’s continued focus on strengthening public safety infrastructure and supporting the personnel who serve on the front lines. Construction began in June 2025 and was completed ahead of the projected March 1, 2026 timeline. Design services were provided by Moliere Chappuis Architects, and construction was completed by Tri Con Enterprises, LLC.

This investment reinforces Lafayette’s commitment to safe, well-managed events and a stronger quality of life, ensuring residents and visitors alike can gather, celebrate, and experience Lafayette with confidence.
