MINORITY AFFAIRS

The Chief of Minority Affairs (CMA) assists the Mayor-President by providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for initiatives and programs that address the needs and problems of different racial, ethnic and social minority groups in the City and Parish of Lafayette.

The CMA builds bridges, establishes relationships and maintains communication with minority communities and stakeholders who are traditionally underrepresented in the operation and delivery of services in our city and parish. The CMA reaches out to minority groups, assesses their civic and social needs and designs strategies and programs to meet those needs. The CMA sets goals, defines outcomes and evaluates efforts that are designed to address the unmet civic, economic and social needs of Lafayette’s minority communities.

The CMA advises the Mayor-President and engages with LCG Department Directors, Division Leaders, Parish Council and City Council members on policies and programs that affect minorities such as disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE’s), community economic development, affordable housing, arts, culture, public health, public safety and recreation. As a key member of the administration, the CMA will establish partnerships across LCG's Departments to promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in its operations and in its delivery of services.
