Councilman John J. Guilbeau represents Lafayette Parish Council District 4, the seat to which he was elected in 2019. He retired with 33 years of service with the Louisiana Department of Education as a senior administrator. Prior to his employment with the Louisiana Department of Education, Councilman Guilbeau served in the U. S. Navy (1967-1973). Following retirement, he served as a general manager of Acadian Hills Country Club and as a real estate salesperson with Ron Gaubert Realtors.
Councilman Guilbeau is a past member and Chair of the Lafayette City- Parish Planning & Zoning Commission and the Citizens Advisory Committee. He also served on the Louisiana State Emergency Preparedness Team and the LHSAA Executive Committee. Councilman Guilbeau is an active parishioner of Saint Edmond Catholic Church, a member of American Legion Post 69, the Knights of Columbus, the NRA, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni Association, the Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation, and he was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He is also a former volunteer Carencro fireman.
Councilman Guilbeau holds a bachelor’s degree in speech and theatre from University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a master’s degree in mass communication from University of Tennessee, and is a graduate of the Burk Baker School of Real Estate and Appraising. He enjoys sports (especially golf), antique collecting, writing, and spending time with his wife, Vicki; their children, Kevin, Brian and Kyle; their eight (8) grandchildren; and their dog, Keg.
