LAFAYETTE JUVENILE DETENTION HOME LAUNCHES R.I.S.E. PROGRAM
Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Juvenile Detention Home (LJDH) announces the launch
of the Reformative Instruction and Skills Enhancement (R.I.S.E.) Program, a
comprehensive academic, emotional fluency, and mindfulness initiative designed
to enhance the skills of LJDH youth. This holistic program ensures that
participants receive well-rounded development, equipping them for success in
all aspects of their lives.
Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet expressed her enthusiasm,
stating, "The R.I.S.E program will give an opportunity for these young
people to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma, possibly a trade
certification for a job opportunity and most importantly a second chance for
them to be a productive part of our community.”
In partnership with Volunteer Instructors Teaching Adults (VITA),
LJDH has developed an educational component focused on preparing students for
the HiSET test, covering English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reading.
Upon passing the HiSET, students can earn a state-issued high school equivalency
credential, opening doors to career advancement, military service, training
programs, or further education.
As of July 16, LJDH completed the Test of Adult Basic Education
(T.A.B.E.) for its students. TABE provides a solid foundation for assessing the
skills and knowledge of adult learners. The recent scores indicate that several
students are well-prepared and ready to take the HiSET. Direct instruction will
ensure they are fully prepared before taking the test.
Participation in the R.I.S.E. program is merit-based. Youth who
display good behavior, are interested in learning and can interact positively
with others are selected. The program serves as an incentive, encouraging
positive behavior and a commitment to personal growth.
Arsenio J. Andrus, LJDH Training/Compliance Coordinator, added,
"We are already seeing promising results from the R.I.S.E. Program, and
are just getting started. We are deeply passionate about this initiative and
firmly believe it will make a significant, positive difference in the lives of
our youth, filling us all with hope for their future."
LJDH is thrilled with the progress of the R.I.S.E. program thus far and looks forward to seeing its continued success as this initiative is a critical step in fostering a brighter future for the youth of Lafayette.
