MAYOR-PRESIDENT BOULET APPOINTS GEORGE MARKS AS DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE & DEVELOPMENT

Role strengthens Lafayette’s position as a cultural and economic connector on the global stage

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet announces the appointment of George Marks as Director of International Trade and Development for Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG), effective April 6, 2026. In this role, Marks will lead the Lafayette International Center, advancing Lafayette’s global presence by strengthening international partnerships, expanding trade opportunities, and elevating the region’s cultural and economic assets on an international stage.

Marks brings more than two decades of experience at the intersection of cultural development, economic strategy, and international exchange. As founder and CEO of the NUNU Arts & Culture Collective, he has helped position Acadiana as a model for creative placemaking, leveraging millions in public investment and building partnerships across Louisiana and the global Francophone community.

“Lafayette’s culture has always been our competitive advantage and our connection to the world,” said Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. “George understands how to translate that culture into opportunity. His leadership will help us continue building Lafayette as a place where culture, business, and global partnerships come together to drive growth.”

Marks’ background includes developing international cultural exchange programs with partners in France, Martinique, and Guadeloupe, as well as participating in trade missions and global policy convenings. His work has been recognized nationally and internationally as a leading model for integrating culture into economic development strategy.

As Director, Marks will focus on expanding international trade connections, supporting local businesses and institutions in accessing global markets, and positioning Lafayette as a hub for cultural exchange, education, tourism, and economic collaboration. The Lafayette International Center will also continue to serve as a gateway for international delegations, entrepreneurs, and organizations seeking to connect with the region.

“From day one, the focus has been on building connections between Lafayette and the world,” said Marks. “We have a unique cultural identity that already resonates globally, and there’s real opportunity to grow both new and existing partnerships. Allons-y! Let’s build on what makes our community so special and continue moving Lafayette forward.”

This appointment reflects the Boulet administration’s continued focus on strengthening Lafayette’s cultural economy while expanding its reach beyond local and regional boundaries. By investing in international engagement, Lafayette is reinforcing its role as a connector, linking culture, commerce, and community on a global scale.

As Marks steps into the role, the administration will be working in close coordination with community and regional partners to shape the next phase of Lafayette’s international strategy, with new programs, partnerships, and opportunities to be announced in the months ahead.
