MAYOR-PRESIDENT BOULET EMBARKS ON SISTER CITY VISIT TO BELGIUM, FOCUSING ON ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL TIES

Lafayette, LA – Mayor-President Boulet is set to visit two of Lafayette’s sister cities: Namur, Belgium and Le Cannet, France, reinforcing relationships dating back to 1979. This trip marks a pivotal moment in fostering economic development and cultural exchange between the two cities.

During the visit, Boulet will engage in a series of strategic meetings and events aimed at enhancing collaboration and exploring new opportunities for growth and partnership. Highlights of the itinerary include:

• Meeting with Officials on Natural Risk Management: Discussions will focus on strategies for river flooding and disaster relief, leveraging expertise from Namur's experiences.
  

• Tour of Namur Smart and Sustainable Trade Show: Exploring innovations in smart city technologies and sustainable practices, crucial for advancing Lafayette's infrastructure goals.
  

• University Collaboration: Talks with officials from the University of Namur to expand student exchange programs, strengthening educational ties between Lafayette and Namur.
  

• Business Development Meeting: Meeting with the CEO of a Belgian corporation in the process of establishing operations in Lafayette, focusing on innovative technologies for natural fiber extraction from water hyacinths.
  

• Cultural Celebrations: Participating as a guest of honor in the inauguration of a photographic exhibition as well as viewing of the Namur mural designed in honor of our great city, celebrating the 45-year twinning charter signed on July 4, 1979. The Namur mural was designed by Lafayette creatives, Burt Durand and Makemade celebrating Lafayette's cultural contributions.
  

The delegation will include key figures such as current and past mayors of Namur, the governor of the province, and notable Belgian dignitaries, underscoring the importance of this enduring partnership.  

Mayor-President Boulet expressed enthusiasm about the trip saying, “This exchange is a legacy that began over half a century ago and I’m honored to continue it on behalf of the city.” She continues, “Many mayors have embarked on this same journey as we each recognized the value of economic and cultural collaboration and its impact on our community.”
