LAFAYETTE WINS DISTRICT III, CATEGORY J IN THE 2024 CLEANEST CITY CONTEST
Lafayette, LA –The city of Lafayette and the Lafayette Garden Club have achieved a remarkable feat by placing first in the prestigious 2024 Cleanest City Contest for District III (location), Category J (population). This victory marks a significant milestone for Lafayette, showcasing its dedication to maintaining cleanliness and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
The Louisiana Garden Club Federation (LGCF) Cleanest City Contest, initiated in 1958, stands as a pioneering initiative in raising awareness about litter problems in Louisiana. As the sole state to organize such a contest, Louisiana continues to lead the way in addressing environmental concerns. The contest involves volunteer judges visiting participating cities to evaluate cleanliness, with winners progressing to compete at the state level. This year’s district competition took place on April 3, and the state-level judging will take place from April 23 to May 3.
“As Mayor-President, I am proud of and want to thank the organizations that serve Lafayette with love and passion focused on abating litter, beautification and making us as good as we can be," said Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet.
While
celebrating Lafayette's success, it's essential to recognize the collective
efforts needed to combat litter issues statewide. Community engagement, through
initiatives like "Trash Bash" days, has shown promising results. The
LGCF emphasizes the significance of education, advocating for school projects,
environmental programs, and recycling initiatives to instill a culture of
cleanliness and sustainability.
