Precinct 1 covers the geographic area from Congress St. at the Southern boundary to Gloria Switch Rd (Hwy 98) in the North. The Northwest Evangeline Thruway (I-49 Corridor) is the eastern boundary with University Ave. being the primary boundary to the West. Additionally, Precinct 1 extends west on Cameron Street to its 4200 block (approximate). The boundary also extends north from Cameron St. up to and including I-10. The Precinct encompasses City Council Districts 1 and 5. There are unincorporated areas within this geographical area that do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Lafayette Police Department.

Precinct 1 is where two Interstates intersect and is the gateway to the City of Lafayette. It is comprised of mostly residential areas, with commercial businesses along major thoroughfares. Precinct 1 contains much of Lafayette’s historical areas and is home to many schools and churches of varying faiths. There are also several City Parks, the largest of these being Moore Park located along North University Ave.

The Precinct 1 Building is housed at the Clifton Chenier Center located at 220 W. Willow.
