1. When are the Council meeting agendas published?
Agendas are normally published on the Friday prior to the meetings in The Daily Advertiser, barring conflicts with holidays. Agendas are available at the Council Office or on the LCG website on Thursday afternoon prior to the meetings.

2. What are the procedures for speaking at Council meetings?
Citizens may complete speaker forms(s) for submission to the Clerk of the Council or the Council staff prior to the call of the agenda item(s) for which they wish to speak, and are allotted three (3) minutes of speaking time per item.

3. Who can I contact for copies of ordinances and/or resolutions?
Contact the Council Office by phone at (337) 291-8800 and speak with the Legislative Affairs staff.

4. When are the Councilmembers in the office?
The role of the elected City and Parish Councilmember is considered to be a temporary, part-time position. When calling for or visiting the Council Office to see Councilmembers, Council staff take messages, which are relayed directly to the Councilmembers if our Citizen Advocacy staff or our Legislative Assistants are unable to address the immediate issue(s) or concern(s).

5. What is the difference between the LCG administration and the Councils?
The LCG administration exercises general executive and administrative authority; whereas, the Councils make up the legislative body, which adopts the laws of the City-Parish.

6. When and what time are the City and Parish Council meetings held?
Meetings of the Lafayette City Council and the Lafayette Parish Council are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month (unless otherwise noted). Parish Council meetings begin at 4:30 p.m. and City Council meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. The meetings are aired live on both LUS Fiber-Channel 3 and on Cox Communications-Channel 16, then replayed on the following Friday at 7:00 p.m.

7. Where can I get City and/or Parish maps?
Various types of maps can be obtained from One Acadiana by calling (337) 233-2705, Lafayette Convention & Visitors Bureau by calling (337) 232-3737, or the Innovation & Technology Department’s GIS Division by calling (337) 291-8028.

8. Where and when are the minutes from the Council meetings posted?
Minutes are published on the Friday following the meetings in The Daily Advertiser and are placed on the Council webpage. Please note that the proceedings/minutes of the Council meetings are a synopsis, and is not a verbatim transcript.

9. When is the next Council election and is there a fee to run?
The next election will be in 2027.  Candidates must qualify with the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court, pursuant to the schedule of qualifying dates. For fees associated with qualifying, you may contact the Clerk of Court’s Elections Division at (337) 291-6368.  In lieu of fees, a candidate may present a nominating petition with at least 100 signatures, which could be explained further by Elections Division staff.

10. Where can I pick up a certificate of occupancy?
Citizens may call (337) 291-8280 for guidance on obtaining certificates of occupancy.

Acadiana Waste Services (AWS) can be contacted directly by phone at (337) 205-7710; however, the Public Works Department’s Environmental Quality Division can alternatively be contacted by phone at (337) 291-8518 or citizens can always call 311.

21. Where is the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles located?
