LCG AWARDED KEEP LOUISIANA BEAUTIFUL GRANT TO HELP REDUCE LITTER AND BEAUTIFY LOCAL PLAYGROUND

Lafayette, LA – In a continued effort to improve quality of life and reduce litter, Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has installed five new trash receptacles at the J. Wallace James Playground thanks to the 2024-25 Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Trash Receptacle Grant Program. LCG was one of 60 grant recipients statewide to receive receptacles through this initiative, made possible with funding from the State of Louisiana and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

The installation marks more than just new infrastructure—it represents a tangible step toward cleaner, safer public spaces for Lafayette families. By placing these receptacles in a high-traffic community play area, LCG aims to foster better waste habits while creating a more welcoming environment for children and families who frequent the park.

“Litter is hurting our quality of life in Lafayette,” says LCG Environmental Quality Manager Bess Foret. “With these new receptacles installed, we’re not just reducing litter—we’re encouraging civic pride and helping our parks remain places of joy and community.

This effort is part of a larger statewide initiative: in total, through the Trash Receptacle Grant Program, Keep Louisiana Beautiful awarded 285 receptacles to 60 organizations in 37 parishes. Data collected from previous installations show these efforts make a real difference. According to KLB, areas with properly installed and maintained trash receptacles have seen up to a 78% reduction in litter.

“One of our organization’s key initiatives is to help build infrastructure that supports clean, beautiful communities. Funding trash receptacles is one way we do that.”, says Susan Russell, KLB Executive Director. “Congratulations to Lafayette Consolidated Government for being selected as a 2024-25 Trash Receptacle Grant recipient.”

As part of the grant requirements, LCG will conduct a post-installation litter scan and compare it with initial conditions to measure the impact of the new bins. These findings will be shared with the public once available, further reinforcing transparency and accountability in community improvement efforts.
