OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM MAYOR-PRESIDENT MONIQUE B. BOULET

Lafayette, LA – Earlier this week LPD issued communication concerning the UL Science Museum, a LCG owned facility, operated and managed entirely by the University and in accordance with the 2022 Cooperative Endeavor Agreement. In an effort to clarify LPD’s responsibility in and around the facility, I asked LCG City-Parish Attorney Pat Ottinger to evaluate the situation. 

In communication with Dr. E. Joseph Savoie and the University, we were informed of the following information.

• The UL Police Department is certified under the Federal Clery Act that “requires colleges and universities to report campus crime data, support victims of violence and publicly outline the policies and procedures they have put into place to improve campus safety.”
• All 911 calls made from the UL Science Museum are received directly by the UL Police Department.  
• The UL Police Department is responsible for the security of all activities that occur at the UL Science Museum and in the immediate area.

To make clear, LPD’s role on each of UL campus facilities in the city of Lafayette is in a support role when called upon.
