NEW SOCCER FIELDS INVESTMENT AT MOORE PARK BOOSTS ECONOMY, TOURISM, SOCCER CLUBS 

Lafayette, LA – A groundbreaking ceremony was held this morning at Moore Park soccer fields, where construction of a new state-of-the-art complex is expected to start within a month. Phase one of the Moore Park Soccer Super Complex, valued as a $15 million investment, will bring nine state-of-the-art soccer fields, including a main stadium featuring artificial turf, LED sports lighting, and the capacity to seat 1,000 people. The remaining fields will feature topnotch turfgrass Celebration Bermudagrass. “I am so excited about another park investment on the northside of Lafayette,” Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Culture Department Director Hollis Conway said. “Moore Park coupled with the revamping of Brown Park into a premiere baseball and softball complex is a game-changer.” 

More enhancements include a photo wall stage that will supply a background for award ceremonies, two traffic-calming roundabouts for pedestrian safety, and a playground with inclusive playground equipment. “A super soccer complex means a better quality of life for our community. And an attractive complex and top-notch field will draw in teams for regional and national tournaments, increasing retail, hotel/motel, and restaurant revenues,” Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory said. 

Lafayette Travel President and CEO Ben Berthelot added that diversification is necessary for youth tourism to remain the fastest growing tourism market in Lafayette. “Moore Park has been a jewel for many, many years, and just like any jewel, sometimes it takes a little polishing and shining to allow it to reach its fullest potential. This new facility will open other opportunities like archery and quidditch and other fast-growing sports.” 

Not only will this investment in the soccer fields benefit the local economy and tourism, but it will also have a direct impact on soccer clubs. Cajun Rush and LA Krewe Rush Executive Director Michael Ritch looks forward to Moore Park being a hub for youth and adult soccer. The clubs are thrilled to play on quality fields that will enhance the overall playing experience. “The new facility will help our membership collectively. We look forward to recreational and competitive play and the number of tournaments Lafayette will attract,” he said. 

Construction will start in late September and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. While under construction, Moore Park will remain open and remaining soccer fields will be untouched. Phase 2 will include a vehicle bridge and a tenth field.
