Precinct 1 covers the geographic area from Congress St. at the Southern boundary to Gloria Switch Rd (Hwy 98) in the North. The Northwest Evangeline Thruway (I-49 Corridor) is the eastern boundary with University Ave. being the primary boundary to the West. Additionally, Precinct 1 extends west on Cameron Street to its 4200 block (approximate). The boundary also extends north from Cameron St. up to and including I-10. The Precinct encompasses City Council Districts 1 and 5. There are unincorporated areas within this geographical area that do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Lafayette Police Department.

Precinct 1 is where two Interstates intersect and is the gateway to the City of Lafayette. It is comprised of mostly residential areas, with commercial businesses along major thoroughfares. Precinct 1 contains much of Lafayette’s historical areas and is home to many schools and churches of varying faiths. There are also several City Parks, the largest of these being Moore Park located along North University Ave.

The Precinct 1 Building is housed at the Clifton Chenier Center located at 220 W. Willow.

For the Precinct exact geographical boundaries please see the precinct maps link below.

Precinct Commander: Captain Will White

Geographically, the boundaries of Precinct 2 are the areas bordered by Johnston Street, University Avenue, Walker Road, and Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

Precinct 2 is primarily residential and commercial. There are 2 major hospitals in the district; University Medical Center and Southwest Medical Center. Other notable locations are Lafayette Middle School, Prairie Elementary, Myrtle Place Elementary, Lafayette High School, Lafayette Community College, the Cajundome, and Cajun Sports complex and athletic fields.

Personnel in the Precinct are assigned to 4 alternating patrol shifts. Assignments to these shifts vary depending on information received through the Comp-Stat process. All of the officers and supervisors of Precinct 2 have received adequate training in this new program. Each supervisor was issued an Comp-Stat Operations Manual explaining the Comp-Stat process and what is expected of each rank. Officers are now patrolling a smaller area instead of the whole city and have been encouraged to take some “ownership” in their respective patrol zones. The goal is to become more “proactive” instead of “reactive.”

Officers have been instructed to meet and visit with the citizens in their Precinct and to become familiar with the routines of those areas. The program is similar to the “cop-on-the-beat” type of policing of the 40’s and 50’s. Citizens are encouraged to meet and communicate with the cop on their beat.

Thus far, the Comp-Stat program appears to be working and will only improve as we reach our goal of being fully staffed.

The southern border follows along all property that is north of the Vermilion River. The west border is the BNSF railroad from the East University underpass to West Simcoe Street, and the North East Evangeline Thruway north of railroad crossing.

Precinct 4 is primarily residential and commercial. The Northgate Mall is also located at the northern gateway of Lafayette just south of I-10 and Highway 167. A newly developed shopping center is located at I-10 and Louisiana Avenue. This precinct also has two major home improvement stores located right off of the I-49 corridor.

There are several school districts in Precinct 4; Acadian Middle, Career Center, Evangeline Elementary, J. W. Faulk Elementary, Lafayette Charter, Moss Annex, Moss Middle, Northside High & Paul Breaux Elementary.

Precinct 4 is divided into 4 zones. There are 4 patrol shifts alternating with an average of 6 officers per shift.

The Lafayette Police Department has adopted the Com-Stat process. This enables the Precinct Commander to have more flexibility in asserting manpower where needed. Through Com-Stat, better communication has been developed between the various departments within Lafayette Parish. This has proven to be a viable tool in solving crime in all the Precincts. Officers are gathering more information, sharing this information through Com-Stat and are closing more cases because of this process. Com-Stat is working very well. There is only room for improvement.

Lafayette is rapidly growing. Having the Com-Stat process in place will allow or assist the Lafayette Police Department to grow with the city.

The Precinct 4 building is located at 1820 Moss Street, Lafayette, LA 70501.
