LAFAYETTE CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT BREAKS GROUND ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY CONVENIENCE CENTER

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) broke ground this morning on the long-awaited Environmental Quality Convenience Center, marking the official start of construction on the new 4-acre facility at 400 Dugas Road.

The center is designed to provide residents with a free, accessible location to drop off household waste, recyclables, construction debris, electronics, as well as other items that may not be collected curbside. It will also serve as a year-round hub for environmental programming, including paper shredding, household hazardous waste collection, and other community education events.

“This project has been a long time coming, and we’re proud to see it underway,” said Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. “By giving people a better way to dispose of waste, we’re reducing illegal dumping, keeping trash out of our river, and making it easier for everyone to do their part for a cleaner, healthier Lafayette.”

The facility will feature a raised dumping platform for safe, easy unloading into roll-off dumpsters, with on-site staff available to assist residents. Initial dirt work is already in progress, with construction expected to wrap up in 2026, weather permitting.

Garden City Construction is the project’s contractor, with D&B Architects leading design efforts.
