ACADIANA NFL YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE LAUNCHES IN LAFAYETTE AND SURROUNDING AREAS

Lafayette, LA –The Lafayette Park, Arts, Recreation, and Culture (PARC) Department is partnering with NFL Flag, the official flag football league of the NFL and the largest youth flag football league in the country.

PARC Athletic Programs Supervisor Walter Guillory worked with the New Orleans Saints Youth Football Development Manager to bring the Acadiana NFL Youth Flag Football League to Lafayette Parish and rallied parks and recreation departments in Opelousas and New Iberia to join. Teams will represent the Saints and wear official NFL Saints jerseys, belts, and flags.

Guillory said he is impressed with the quality of the program and is excited about the post-season Regional Tournament for a chance to earn a spot at the NFL Flag National Championships at Pro Bowl.

“We’re excited to partner with the NFL and expand flag football opportunities for kids in our community. It’s a fun environment where they can learn the fundamentals, sharpen skills, learn sportsmanship, and have a shot at making it to the national stage,” Guillory said.

“NFL Flag is growing at an astronomical rate across the state of Louisiana and we are thrilled to see the Lafayette PARC Department get involved with this NFL initiative this fall,” said New Orleans Saints Youth Football Development Manager, Austin Pasco. “NFL Flag provides a great entryway to learn and develop in the game of football for children ages 4-17 years old, teaching them development skills such as being active, interacting with others, sportsmanship, teamwork, character development and leadership.”

The Acadiana NFL Youth Flag Football League is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 17, and kids of all skill levels can register to play.

There will be a $40 registration fee and registration will be open through the month of August. Residents do not need to live within Lafayette Parish, Iberia Parish, or St. Landry Parish to participate.

The league is set to begin September 17.
