TRAFFIC, ROADS, AND BRIDGES DEPARTMENT PREPARES FOR WINTER WEATHER
Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government’s (LCG) Traffic, Roads, and Bridges Department (TRAB) is preparing for the winter storm expected to affect the area over the next several days.
Earlier today crews worked with the Lafayette Police Department to stage barricades at all bridges in the parish that cross the Vermilion River, as well as other overpasses that might potentially freeze, such as the bridge on Ambassador Caffery that crosses Interstate 10. TRAB workers will also apply a saltwater brine solution and road salt to the bridge decks in an attempt to prevent them from freezing over. City and Parish roads will be monitored by law enforcement officers who will coordinate with TRAB crews if roads become too icy and dangerous for vehicle traffic.
Bucket truck and tree-trimmer crews are also on standby in the event the ice gets thick enough to break branches and down tree limbs. The department is also prepared to staff additional personnel to assist with dispatch and recovery operations. To report iced-over roads or fallen tree limbs, call (337) 291-8517. The dispatch line is active 24-hours a day.
