APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS
Applications for the following positions may ONLY be downloaded by clicking the link at the end of the job requirements. Please complete the application online and print it; if you do not have available internet access or the ability to print the application, you may visit any branch of the Lafayette Public Library System to use the public computers. Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Title Wage Department

LABOR FOREMAN I $11.36-$14.21/Hour/DOE Public Works
Oversees grounds and equipment maintenance at the Dugas Road Closed Landfill and around the Recycling Office at 400 Dugas Road. This includes prioritizing and scheduling when work needs to be completed. Operates a tractor with 15-foot bush hog. Minor equipment maintenance and repair on tractor, bush hog, weed eaters, and lawn mowers as well as herbicide application. Completion of the eighth school grade, and experience in the maintenance, repair, and minor construction of municipal facilities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver’s license to apply. Valid Louisiana, Class E driver’s license prior to appointment. Performance test will be on a 15-foot bush hog. WATER METER TECHNICIAN $12.82-$16.02/Hour/DOE LUS
This position performs mechanical tasks in the installation, cleaning, and testing of water meters. Some minor repairs may be performed. Work includes customer contact and is subject to periodic 24-hour call. Qualifications include the possession of computer skills and a familiarity with the Lafayette area. Graduation from high school and some experience in the repair of small machines and mechanical devices or related; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of Class II Water Distribution certification as administered by the State of Louisiana, within two years of appointment is desirable. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Valid Louisiana driver’s license prior to appointment required. Ability to maintain functioning telephone. Ability to arrive on site within 30 minutes of being notified for after-hour call-out. CIVIL ENGINEERING AIDE II (Rodman) $13.98-$17.47/hour/DOE Drainage
Position will work as a Rod Technician on a survey crew. High school with completion of one year of college level courses in drafting, surveying, or engineering technology; or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience. LIBRARIAN II- Electronic Resources $20.55-$25.69/Hour/DOE Library
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and conducting programs inside of a library or through outreach services which involve computers, computer programs, e-resources, and a wide variety of technology and Makerspace equipment and supplies. Provides formal computer training to adults, and assists patrons with the use of personal electronic devices. Also staffs a public service desk providing reference services, reader’s advisory, and assistance with computers, Makerspace equipment, and other print and non-print resources. Some nights and weekends will be required. Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution required. Applicants must have progressively responsible library experience. Examination will be a rating of education and experience through a structured interview. LIBRARIAN II- Adult Reference $20.55-$25.69/Hour/DOE Library
Responsible for a specialized library function which may involve supervisory work and requires little supervision. Openings in the adult reference section are responsible for providing library services to adults, including staffing a public service desk, providing reference services, and planning and providing age specific programming. Participates in all library activities involving adults, including outreach activities, and may require supervision of paraprofessionals associated with the same. Incumbents in this area of assignment may also be responsible for overseeing and participating in the work of lower level librarians and paraprofessionals in all areas of a small regional library, and coordinating and directing work flow in the absence of the branch manager, depending on branch of assignment. Some nights and weekends will be required. Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution required. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II
(Tandem Axle Dump Truck)
$11.36-$14.21/Hour/DOE  
Position operates a tandem axle dump truck in the repair and maintenance of wastewater collection lines and manholes, drainage projects, street projects, water distribution projects or related, depending on area of assignment. Completion of the eighth grade, some experience in the operation of trucks or equipment similar to those described herein, or any equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Position(s) operate a manual transmission or an automatic transmission vehicle, depending on area of assignment. Possession of the appropriate class commercial driver’s license and endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with Air Brake and combination endorsements, prior to appointment, required. Testing will be performance on the tandem dump truck using manual and/or automatic transmissions. Accepting the first 10 completed applications until Friday, July 17, 2020 at noon.

Performs manual labor requiring more skill than that of the Laborer I class or some knowledge of methods and materials to be used in the area of work assignment. REGULATORY COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST
(LUS Env Comp)
$20.81-$26.01/Hour/DOE LUS
Position participates in on-going environmental compliance work, involving site inspections for adherence to environmental regulations. Drives to sites, including industrial sites, restaurants and municipal wastewater facilities, and takes samples to conduct analysis to ensure compliance; may involve hazardous materials. Conducts or obtains laboratory tests and analyses. Performs data entry, ensures quality control, and prepares reports for regulatory agencies. Reviews Discharge Monitor Reports, submissions, analysis results, and keeps files accurate and up to date. Bachelor’s degree in physical or natural sciences related to area of assignment, professional experience in environmental compliance, a basic knowledge of computer skills, ability to read maps, construction plans, and flowcharts or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AIDE III
(LUS Network Engineering)
$17.42-$21.77/Hour/DOE LUS
Positions in this class perform technical work on electrical/network engineering projects. Incumbent assists network engineers in the maintenance of computer network infrastructure. Work involves planning and installing network upgrades; troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and network equipment; and generating and preparing specifications for computer equipment. Twelve to eighteen months education and formal training beyond high school specific to the individual position and prior work experience in network engineering desired. COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK TECH $18.81-$23.52/Hour/DOE LUS Fiber
Incumbent works in provides technical support and resolves escalated technical trouble calls (Tier 2 support) from customers with cable TV, telephone and internet service or data-related problems for LUS Fiber. Answers calls, troubleshoots issues, and documents simultaneously in a timely fashion. The position also handles escalation of problems to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner for severe conditions – such as power failure or optical fiber cable cut. Position involves 12-hour rotating shifts. Vocation/technical training in electronics, telecommunications, computer, or related, supplemented by work experience providing technical support in the following areas: home electronics, voice and video concepts, high speed internet, networking, computers, and home and business wiring. Experience with network monitoring tools such as Solarwinds a plus, as well as progressively responsible experience working in a network operations center (NOC) or as technical support staff troubleshooting, and supporting VoIP, POTS, Hosted PBX, Video, Internet and/or integrated data systems. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AIDE SPEC I $21.58-$26.98/Hour/DOE LUS Fiber
Positions perform non-routine technical work on telecommunications engineering projects, with responsibility for applying theory and principles of engineering toward projects by doing tasks such as compiling/computing a variety of data, analyzing data and preparing reports, and/or providing assistance regarding schematics, designs, specifications, etc. Associates Degree or completion of a technical specialty program of eighteen months – three years duration in electrical engineering or closely related field and significant prior working experience in the telecommunications industry incorporating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the specific position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IV $14.52-$18.15/hour/DOE  
Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a Gradall, Excavator, Bulldozer, Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck. Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to appointment. Certain positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements established by the Public Works Department, Drainage Division, within two (2) years for continued employment Examination will be a performance test mostly on the Excavator, Gradall and Bulldozer, but will include the Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck.
