City Council District 4
Councilwoman Nanette Cook represents Lafayette City Council District 4, the seat to which she was elected in 2019. She brings many years of experience to the City Council as an educator, having taught at all levels ranging from elementary education to post-secondary education in public and private schools. Councilwoman Cook currently teaches physical education at Cathedral-Carmel School, where she has served on the school board for three (3) years and has volunteered on various committees over the past 20 years. In addition to teaching, she works as a fitness, nutrition, and wellness instructor at the Lourdes Fitness Center and has worked in many other roles in the area of health promotion and wellness.
Councilwoman Cook was a member of the sixth and final Lafayette City-Parish Council. She was elected to the City-Parish District 7 seat in 2015 and served a single term. During her City-Parish Council tenure, Councilwoman Cook also served on the Lafayette Public Utilities Authority. Her father, Dr. Al Simon, served on the Lafayette City Council during the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was through his inspiration and love for Lafayette that she chose to enter the realm of public service. Councilwoman Cook believes in maintaining prosperity in Lafayette and ensuring the safety of its citizens throughout their neighborhoods and communities.
Councilwoman Cook is a graduate of Our Lady of Fatima High School and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in health and physical education from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is married to David Cook and they share five (5) adult children – Clare, Emily, John, Christopher, and Eleanor – and one (1) granddaughter.
