APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Position is responsible for skilled independent work in installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground power lines and related components of the city-parish electrical transmission and distribution system. Position is subject to 24-hour call and work is sometimes hazardous. Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in basic electricity, and experience as a Lineman II; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must show proof of having passed the written portion of the CDL to apply. A pole climbing performance test will be conducted. Louisiana Class A CDL with Air Brake and Combination endorsements within 14-days of hire required. Accepting the first 15 completed applications until Friday, May 8, 2015, at noon, or until filled.

PROGRAMMER ANALYST (Software Services)$23.83-$29.79/hour/DOE IS&T
Position meets with users to identify software needs; writes, modifies, tests, and troubleshoots software applications; trains users on applications; and maintains application documentation. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; experience in computer programming, application design, Microsoft Visual Studio, and SQL server databases; or any equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. FLEET PARKS CLERK$9.76-$12.20/hour/DOEPublic Works
The work of this class involves participating in the order, receipt, storage, and issue of materials, supplies, and fleet parts and equipment. Graduation from high school and considerable experience in a field of work that provides familiarity with fleet parts.  Valid driver’s license required to apply. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III (Street Sweeper)$12.86-$16.08/hour/DOEPublic Works
Work of this class involves the operation of a Street Sweeper (80%), Tandem Dump Truck (10%), Frontend Loader (10%), and related equipment primarily used in the streets division. Must be able to operate the street sweeper. Performance testing will mostly involve the street sweeper. Completion of the eighth grade and experience in the operation of automotive and construction equipment similar to those described herein; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of the appropriate class commercial driver’s license and endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with Air Brake and combination endorsement, prior to hire. Positions in this class perform maintenance and repair of Lafayette Consolidated Government buildings and auxiliary structures, and repair and maintenance of a variety of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment.  Graduation from high school and experience in the building, electrical, and mechanical trades; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.  Strong electrical experience desired. LIBRARY TECHNICAL ASSISTANT III$13.17-$16.47/Hour/DOELibrary
Positions in this class are responsible for operation of a small branch library or directing work flow in the circulation department of a regional library. Work includes assisting patrons, training new employees, balancing monies associated with the circulation function, and may involve lifting books and pushing carts loaded with books. Incumbents in this position work independently within established guidelines on routine and complex tasks. Hours may include night and weekend shifts depending on area of assignment. High school graduation or equivalent, plus additional training in library science, and progressively responsible experience working in a library or bookstore setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience desired. WATER PLANT OPERATOR$14.49-$18.12/Hour/DOE LUS
Position monitors plant equipment, measures water quality and chemical levels, and records information for regulatory reporting at a municipal water treatment plant. Technical courses related to stationary electric motors and pumps, and/or introductory life sciences; experience working with similar industrial machinery; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. High School Diploma or G.E.D required. Must be capable of responding to the site within one hour of being notified. Positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements as established by Lafayette Utilities System within six (6) years for continued employment, including the obtainment of a Class IV Waste Water Treatment certification administered by the state of Louisiana. Position operates a tandem dump truck to repair and install wastewater collection lines and manholes. Completion of the eighth grade, some experience in the operation of trucks or equipment similar to those described herein, or any equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Possession of the appropriate class commercial driver’s license and endorsement as issued by the state of Louisiana required. Applicants must have at least a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or CDL permit to apply and test but must obtain a Louisiana Class A CDL with air brake and combination endorsements prior to hire. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER I (Power Marketing) $23.17-$28.96/Hour/DOELUS
Position is responsible for preparing designs, specifications, and related analyses, including load analysis, transformer studies, and economic analysis, related to electric distribution of Lafayette Utility Systems. Education and/or experience in engineering principles, network design, and project management; possession of the Engineer Intern certification for the state of Louisiana; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. FINANCIAL OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR $31.16-$38.95/HOUR/DOEFinance
Position primarily supervises and participates in financial analyses and reporting in compliance with applicable regulation and standards for Lafayette Public Power Authority, the Lafayette Utility System (LUS), and the LUS Communications System. Incumbent also leads review and analyses of accounting methods for regulatory compliance and proposes changes as needed, as well as interfaces with outside consultants performing annual financial audit of Lafayette Consolidated Government. Incumbent works with substantial independence using thorough knowledge of government and utility accounting, reports to the Accounting Manager and has supervisory responsibility for positions classified as Accountant, Investment Officer and Accounting Specialist. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university and at least three (3) years of work experience as an accountant and/or accounting supervisor required.
