APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

LIBRARIAN II- Teen Services$20.55-$25.69/Hour/DOE Library
Position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and providing library programs, services, and material to teens (ages 12-18) at a regional branch library, providing reference and readers’ advisory service at a public service desk, and assisting teens with technology, computers, and makerspace software and equipment. Additional responsibilities include providing outreach to schools and promoting teen resources. Experience or interest in working with this age group desired. Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution required.  Progressively responsible professional library experience; or an equivalent combination of training or experience required. Equipment Operator IV$2,517-$3,146/month/DOEPublic Works
Position is responsible for the SKILLED operation of a GRADALL, Dozer, Excavator, Backhoe, Tandem Dump Truck and other heavy equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction of large complex drainage projects. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Apprenticeship may be required. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, combination and/or tanker endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required. REGISTERED NURSE $22.76-$28.44/Hour/DOEHealth Unit
This is responsible technical and administrative nursing work. Incumbent works in various clinical settings, participates in parish level health unit operations and performs duties within the scope of practice of license. Bachelor’s degree in nursing with two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse strongly desired. Hours of the current position are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Possession of a valid Louisiana (Registered Nurse) license to practice professional nursing and progressively responsible professional nursing experience required. SERVICE STATION ATTENDANT$9.76-$12.20/hour/DOE Public Works
Responsible for the non-mechanical servicing of vehicles, including changing oil, greasing, servicing batteries, changing tires and other related duties. Position requires regular heavy lifting. Experience servicing automotive equipment is strongly desired. Hours are from 11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M, Monday through Friday or 7:00 A.M to 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, depending on position available at time of hire. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Possession of a valid Louisiana Driver’s License upon appointment required. Position requires regular heavy lifting. CIVIL ENGINEERING AIDE II (Rodman)$13.98-$17.47/hour/DOEPublic Works
Position will work as a Rod Technician on a survey crew. High school with completion of one year of college level courses in drafting, surveying, or engineering technology; or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience. PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN$16.19-$20.23//Hour/DOECommunity Development
Position is responsible for maintenance, repair, operation, facilitation, coordination and management of stage production equipment at a performing arts center. Work includes supervision of a small staff of stage technicians and technical advisement of contractual workers and third party vendors. Position may regularly work at heights of up to 70 feet and routinely stand for periods of time exceeding 8 hours. Incumbents will be required to work a non-traditional schedule including, nights, weekends, and holidays in conjunction with regular 8-5 weekday hours. Graduation from high school supplemented by vocational training or college course work in electronics, electricity, industrial technology or theater arts, and experience in technical stage work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience strongly desired.
